Remote runners

Select Administration in the navigation bar, then Remote runners, to list the remote runner targets you can access, with their status and maintenance mode.

Remote runners screen

Each row includes:

ColumnDescription
CodeThe target's unique code.
DescriptionThe target's description, if it has one.
Owning resourceThe project, environment or asset that owns the target, or Global for a target that can run steps for any resource.
StatusLive, Offline, Never connected, Maintenance or Drained. Hover over the status for what it means for the changes the target serves.
Last connectedWhen the target's daemon last polled for work, or Never.
Maintenance modeOn while the target is not offered new steps.
DrainedWhether a target in maintenance mode has finished every step it was running, so its daemon can be stopped safely.

To act on several targets at once, tick them and open Bulk actions:

Bulk actionFunction
Turn on maintenance modeStop offering new steps to the selected targets. Steps already assigned to them finish.
Turn off maintenance modeOffer new steps to the selected targets again.
Delete selected targetsPermanently delete the selected targets. Their daemons can no longer authenticate.

Each bulk action applies only to the selected targets it can change, and is unavailable when none of them qualify.

Adding a target

  1. Click Add remote runner target.
  2. Enter the target's Code and, optionally, a Description, choose its Owning resource and attach the daemon's Public key (PEM). If the daemon authenticates with a client certificate, attach it under Client certificate (PEM).
  3. Click Add remote runner target.
  4. Click Copy daemon configuration before you leave the page - the bearer token in it is shown only once.

See create the target in OpsChain for the values to enter.

Viewing a target

Select a target in the list to open its page. Banners at the top explain what the target's state means for the changes it serves. From this page you can:

Remote runner target page

  • edit the target's Description
  • limit the resources it serves under Scope - see which changes run remotely
  • override the remote runner settings for this target under Settings - Max concurrent steps, Poll interval (seconds) and Compression level. Leave a value empty to use the system default.
  • choose Turn maintenance mode on or Turn maintenance mode off, or Delete remote runner target, from the ⋮ menu - see upgrade the runner

The page also shows the target's ID, Owning resource, Last connected time, when its Bearer token expires, and when it was Created and Updated.
